Drill Locator
Position Details
We are seeking a Drill Locator to join our team! The ideal candidate for this role is enthusiastic, customer and quality oriented, possesses a strong work ethic and positive attitude, and is highly focused on safety. Our Drill Locators must have the knowledge to safely locate and operate around live utilities in the underground/telecom utility field. The ideal candidate for this position must have full knowledge of underground fiber installation and the associated equipment operations. This position requires a commitment to long-term projects in various locations building out Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH).
Responsibilities:
- Locate and verify all utilities before construction.
- Perform locating services of the drill head for directional drilling operations.
- Locator must understand and have the ability to read utility markings and provide direction to the Drill Operator, adhering to the running lines and avoiding existing utilities.
- Occasionally operate equipment to excavate, place duct, pull cable, and direct bury main-line and drops.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to take direction from Crew Foreman and work as a team.
- High safety awareness.
- A good working knowledge of telecommunications construction to include general familiarity with horizontal directional drilling (HDD); ability to use cable placement equipment and tools and ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.
Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic.
- Must be able to understand how to read prints, utility markings, and have knowledge of the underground process.
- Valid US Driver's License.
- Ability to safely work in a fast-paced environment, with or without supervision.
- Ability to operate equipment, including, but not limited to: directional drills, locating systems, trenchers, and excavators.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screens.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL - Class A.
- Tanker Endorsement
- OSHA 10/40
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
